The Best Part of the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, 2013
The most inspiring of the design ideas from the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, 2013 was the DIFFA’s Dining by Design vignettes by various designers and schools. DIFFA is in its 16th year and has once again harnessed the great talents in the interior design industry to create these imaginative, beautiful and sometimes thought provoking dining room set designs. DIFFA’s mission is to provide direct care for people living with HIV/AIDS and preventive education for those at risk.
This idea by a group of design students packed a powerful message about the global aspect of AIDS. The image of continents is created from glass test tubes inserted into a grid which is back lit by tiny lights suggesting the despair of the disease and hope in finding a cure.
Other design ideas for dining rooms were quirky and fun. Some were evocative of a serene oasis of healing. This one is obviously from the quirky/fun category! By Benjamin Moore, everything is painted with a strong color and pattern. It is testimony to how sometimes more is better.
As an artist, I firmly believe in the healing power of color. These gorgeous flower arrangements, paired with the black and white china demands celebration. I’m thinking champagne, fried chicken, smashed potatoes and red velvet birthday cake for dessert!
If you didn’t make it to the Architectural Digest Home Design Show 2013 make sure to go next year and be inspired by a great collection of innovative design ideas.
